Sugar Art, Swiss Buttercream, Styled on Site
A wedding cake made the slow way, in a quiet studio in Provo, for one couple at a time.
Luxury wedding cakes in Utah, as I make them, are about the hours you can see: sugar flowers shaped petal by petal, hand-painted detail, and tall tiers finished in Swiss buttercream. Most couples invest $650 to $1,200 in their Sweet E’s cake, and larger or more detailed designs go beyond that.
I make around 120 cakes a year, so every design gets my full attention, from the first sketch to the moment I set the top tier at your venue. Below are the details that make a cake feel considered, with real examples from weddings across Utah.

What Sets a Wedding Cake Apart
It is rarely one thing. It is the height of the tiers, the restraint in the palette, and detail that rewards a guest who steps closer. A cake can be entirely white and still be the most beautiful object in the room.
Most of my cakes are finished in Swiss buttercream, which is silky, lightly sweet and smooth enough to take fine piping or paint. When a design calls for crisp stenciling I switch to American buttercream, and I use fondant when a design needs sharp edges or sculpted forms.
The Details I Am Known For
| Detail | How It Is Made | Reads As |
|---|---|---|
| Sugar flowers | Shaped petal by petal, dried, then dusted with color by hand | Garden roses and blossoms that hold their shape through a summer reception |
| Hand-painted work | Painted directly onto the tier with edible color | Watercolor botanicals, lupines and soft landscapes |
| Wafer paper | Thin edible paper shaped into sails, ruffles and petals | Movement and lightness on a tall cake |
| Vintage piping | Layered buttercream garlands, swags and over-piping | Romantic and heirloom, with depth in every tier |
| Height | Varied tier heights and spacing planned for the room | Presence under a high ceiling or in a large ballroom |
Detail adds studio time, so most of these designs land above the starting price for their size. I quote every cake itemized after your tasting and sketch.
Real Cakes from My Studio
For Emily and Justin at The Wild Oak, I built four tiers in varying heights wrapped in the softest white, with textured fondant at the base and wafer paper sails climbing the side, so the cake felt sculptural and airy at the same time.
For Clara and Ryan at Hobble Creek Manor, the design was classic and romantic, with delicate draping and a small swan topper, and the whole cake was dairy free for her guests. Dairy-free and gluten-friendly options are available, contact me for flavor details. My cakes contain wheat, dairy and eggs and are made in a kitchen where nuts and soy are present.

What a Luxury Wedding Cake Costs
Tier count and servings set the base. Two tiers for 20 to 60 guests start from $450, three tiers for 48 to 115 start from $650, and four and five tiers for 85 to 210 start from $875. Sugar flowers, painted work, wafer paper and extra height add studio time, so detailed designs usually land above those numbers. Delivery is quoted by location and Utah’s 3% sales tax is added at the end. Every tier and serving count is in my wedding cake price guide.

Luxury Wedding Cake Questions, Answered
What makes a wedding cake feel luxurious?
Handwork you can see up close. Sugar flowers shaped petal by petal, painted detail, wafer paper, vintage piping, and tall tiers finished cleanly in Swiss buttercream. It comes from craft and restraint more than from size alone.
How much does a luxury wedding cake cost in Utah?
Most couples invest $650 to $1,200 in a Sweet E’s cake, and larger or more detailed designs go beyond that. Starting prices by tier and serving count are on my pricing page, and detail is quoted after your tasting and sketch.
Do you use Swiss buttercream or fondant?
Swiss buttercream is my default for its silky texture and light sweetness. I switch to American buttercream for crisp stenciling, and use fondant when a design needs sharp edges or sculpted forms.
How far ahead should we book a detailed cake?
Four to six months ahead, and earlier for a June to September Saturday. Sugar flowers and painted work take studio time, and I take a limited number of dates each season.
Do you deliver wedding cakes across Utah?
Yes. I deliver and style every cake myself across Utah County, Salt Lake City, Park City and beyond, and I travel for destination weddings. Delivery is quoted by location.
