The Summer Collection

Bright palettes, honest buttercream, and a plan for the heat.

Summer wedding cakes in Utah come down to two things: a design that loves warm light, and a plan that keeps buttercream out of the sun. Most couples invest $650 to $1,200 in their wedding cake, and a summer design is quoted like every cake I make, by tiers and servings first: two tiers start from $450 for 20 to 60 servings, three tiers from $650 for 48 to 115, with design detail and delivery location setting the final number.

Below are the summer designs I return to, the real cakes behind them, and how I plan delivery and display for a July reception. For the full season of styles, the summer romance gallery holds every warm-weather cake, and the wedding cake prices guide lists every tier.

Summer Wedding Cakes That Suit the Season

Summer light is strong and warm, so the designs that shine in it are the ones with texture and color. Citrus palettes in yellow and coral, pressed wildflowers set into smooth buttercream, and garden roses styled in a loose cascade all catch that light without needing much else. White cakes look wonderful too, with a single strong accent: one bloom color, a ribbon, or a painted detail.

Painted work is especially good in summer because the color lives in the surface rather than on top of it. My guide to painted wedding cakes shows how a palette can echo a garden or a mountain view, and the same idea carries into the brighter end of my spring wedding cakes.

Planning Around Utah Heat

Buttercream is at its best below about 70°F. Temperatures above that, high humidity, and direct sun all affect how a cake looks and holds its shape, so I plan a summer cake around where it will sit, not only how it will look.

The most useful thing you can plan is the cake table. Ask your venue for a stable, level table indoors or in full shade, out of the afternoon sun and away from heaters, kitchen doors and the dance floor. I engineer and dowel tiered cakes in the studio, box them for the drive, and time delivery so the cake arrives after the tables are set and before the doors open. Once it is styled on site, it belongs to the room, so the cooler that room is, the better the cake will look at the cutting.

For outdoor receptions, keep the display short. Schedule the cutting earlier in the evening rather than at the end, and let your florist confirm that any fresh flowers styled on the cake are safe for it. If you are planning around an open-air venue, my notes on delivery and on-site setup cover how arrival and styling work.

Summer Flavors on My Menu

Lighter, brighter pairings suit a warm evening. Couples often choose lemon raspberry, piña colada with coconut cake and pineapple curd, or strawberry shortcake with vanilla cake and strawberry mousse. Lemon curd and raspberry puree fillings are both on the menu, and you can mix flavors by tier. Your wedding cake tasting covers three cakes and three fillings, so it is easy to compare a summer pairing against a classic.

Dairy-free and gluten-friendly options are available, contact me for flavor details. My cakes contain wheat, dairy and eggs and are made in a kitchen where nuts and soy are present.

What a Summer Design Adds to the Investment

Tier count and servings set the base. Pressed flowers are placed piece by piece and painted detail takes studio hours, so most summer designs with that kind of work land above the starting price for their size. Delivery is quoted by your venue’s location, from receptions across Utah County to the wedding cakes in Salt Lake City I deliver up the valley, and Utah’s 3% sales tax applies to the total.

Summer Wedding Cake Questions, Answered

Will a buttercream wedding cake melt in summer?

Buttercream holds beautifully in a cool room, but temperatures above about 70 degrees, high humidity and direct sun all affect how it looks and holds its shape. Plan a shaded or indoor cake table, keep the display short for outdoor receptions, and the cake will look its best at the cutting.

What are good summer wedding cake flavors?

Bright pairings suit warm evenings: lemon raspberry, pina colada with coconut cake and pineapple curd, and strawberry shortcake with vanilla cake and strawberry mousse are all on my menu. You can choose a different flavor for each tier.

Can our cake sit outside during an outdoor reception?

For a short time and in full shade, yes. I recommend keeping the cake indoors or under cover until close to the cutting, and scheduling the cutting earlier in the evening rather than at the end of the night.

Do you deliver summer wedding cakes across Utah?

Yes. I deliver and style every cake on site anywhere in Utah, timed to arrive after the tables are set and before guests come in. Delivery is quoted by your venue’s location.

How much is a summer wedding cake?

Most couples invest $650 to $1,200. Two tiers start from $450 for 20 to 60 servings and three tiers from $650 for 48 to 115, and detailed designs such as pressed flowers or painting usually land above the starting price for their size.
