The 2027 Design Edit
Six looks carrying into the 2027 season, each one shown on a real cake from my Provo studio.
The wedding cake trends carrying into 2027 are vintage piping, sculpted bows and ribbon, textured buttercream, soft color such as sage and blush, hand-painted florals, and flowers that cascade down the tiers. Each one is pictured below on a cake I designed and baked in Utah, and each one works at any scale, from an intimate two tiers to a full five, and most couples invest $650 to $1,200.
Think of trends as a shared vocabulary rather than a rulebook. The most beautiful 2027 cakes will borrow one idea and make it personal to the venue, the florals, and the two of you. For more finished designs, browse the full gallery, my real Utah wedding cake ideas, or the Utah wedding cakes hub, and see current pricing whenever you are ready.

Six Wedding Cake Trends for 2027
| Trend | What It Looks Like | Where It Shines |
|---|---|---|
| Vintage piping | Layered over-piping, ruffles, swags and tiny piped garlands | Romantic, candlelit and heritage venues |
| Sculpted bows | One oversized bow or ribbon wrapped across smooth white tiers | Modern ballrooms and minimalist florals |
| Textured buttercream | Scalloped petals, pleats, swirls and palette-knife strokes | Garden, mountain and outdoor celebrations |
| Soft color | Sage, blush and peach tinted into the buttercream itself | Couples who want color without a bold statement |
| Painted florals | Hand-painted wildflowers and buttercream brushwork | Spring and summer weddings, artistic couples |
| Cascading flowers | Sugar or fresh blooms flowing diagonally down the tiers | Tall cakes and grand reception entrances |
The Romantic Revival: Vintage Piping and Statement Bows
Vintage piping is the trend with the most staying power. Lambeth-style over-piping builds each tier up in layers of ruffles, beading and swags, and the newest versions add tiny piped flowers in a single accent color: peach on ivory, or navy on white. See more in the vintage piping gallery. For the history, the piping details and pricing, read my guide to vintage wedding cakes.
Statement bows take the opposite approach: smooth, quiet tiers and one bold gesture. A blush fondant bow wrapped across white tiers, or a white bow trailing long ribbon tails onto the cake table, gives a modern cake a focal point without clutter. If you love restraint, the bow pairs naturally with the ideas in my guide to simple elegant wedding cakes. For pearls, bows and texture shown detail by detail, see my guide to wedding cake decorations.
Texture and Soft Color in Buttercream
Texture is where buttercream shows off. Scalloped petals, deep pleats and soft swirls catch the light differently as the evening goes on, which makes a single-color cake feel rich rather than plain. Browse the textured finishes gallery for more.
The companion trend is color tinted into the buttercream itself. Sage ombre, blush and warm peach feel fresh against white linens and pair easily with seasonal florals. It is a gentle way to bring your palette onto the cake without committing to a dark, dramatic finish; if you do want drama, my black wedding cake guide covers the bolder end of the spectrum.
Painted Florals and Cascading Flowers
Hand-painted cakes turn the tiers into a canvas. Three tiers painted with violet lupines, or palette-knife blooms in soft pastels, bring the feel of a wildflower meadow indoors, and no two painted cakes are ever alike. The painted palette gallery shows the range, from delicate brushwork to fully sculpted buttercream flowers. For piped and palette-knife blooms up close, my guide to buttercream flower cakes shows ten real designs.
Cascading flowers suit tall cakes especially well, and the look is shifting from tidy clusters to long, diagonal sweeps. Sugar flowers are sculpted by hand and can be matched to any palette or season, while fresh florals are styled on the cake at delivery. See the sugar flowers gallery for hand-sculpted examples. For the three ways roses in particular go onto a cake, piped, sugar or fresh, see my guide to a wedding cake with roses.
Pricing a Trend-Led Wedding Cake
A trend is a design choice, not a separate price list. Your investment starts with the size of the cake, and the detail work is folded into the final design. These are my current starting points:
| Cake Size | From |
|---|---|
| Single tier | $150 |
| Two tier | $450 |
| Three tier | $650 |
| Four and five tier | $875 |
Most couples invest $650 to $1,200. Final pricing varies with the design, your delivery location, and 3% sales tax. Every multi-tier wedding cake includes a tasting, a design consultation, and a complimentary mini cake for your first anniversary. Full details live on the pricing page.
How to Choose the Trend That Fits You
Start With the Setting
Your venue, season and florals narrow the field quickly. Bring photos of the space and your palette to the consultation.
Choose One Lead Detail
The strongest cakes commit to one idea, such as a bow, a painted meadow or vintage piping, and let everything else support it.
Taste, Then Refine
Your tasting settles the flavors, then we refine the design together so the cake looks and tastes like your day.
If your date is in 2027, now is a lovely time to begin. I take a limited number of cakes each season, and my guide to when to order your wedding cake walks through the full timeline.

Wedding Cake Trend Questions
What are the biggest wedding cake trends for 2027?
Vintage piping, sculpted bows and ribbon, textured buttercream, soft tinted color such as sage and blush, hand-painted florals, and flowers that cascade down the tiers. Each can be designed at any size, from two tiers to five.
Is vintage piping still in style for 2027?
Yes. Layered over-piping, ruffles and piped garlands continue to lead romantic designs, and newer versions add small piped flowers in one accent color for a fresher look.
Do trendy details make a wedding cake more expensive?
Detail work is part of the design, so it is reflected in the final price. Most couples invest $650 to $1,200, and the more detail a design carries, the more studio time it asks for. Two tiers for 20 to 60 guests start from $450, three tiers for 48 to 115 from $650, and four and five tiers for 85 to 210 from $875. Final pricing varies with design, delivery location, and 3% sales tax.
Should I choose sugar flowers or fresh flowers?
Both work beautifully. Sugar flowers are sculpted by hand and can be matched to any palette or season, while fresh florals are styled on the cake at delivery. We decide together during your design consultation.
When should I book a 2027 wedding cake?
As soon as you have a date and venue. I take a limited number of cakes each season, and 2026 and 2027 dates are booking now. A $50 tasting with three cakes and three fillings, complimentary with orders over $300, is the first step.
