Soft Color

Blush, peach, sage and lilac, color that whispers rather than shouts.

Pastel wedding cakes use soft, light color, usually blush, peach, sage, lilac or butter yellow, either across a whole tier or in the flowers, piping and painting on white. Most couples invest $650 to $1,200 in their wedding cake. Two tiers start from $450 for 20 to 60 servings and three tiers from $650 for 48 to 115, and pastel designs with sugar flowers, painting or pressed petals usually land above the starting price for their size.

Below are real pastel cakes from my studio and the ways I bring soft color in. The pastel and whimsical gallery and the blush and soft neutrals gallery hold more, and every tier is itemized with my wedding cake prices.

Why Pastel Wedding Cakes Work So Well

Pastels sit easily beside almost any bouquet. They pick up the softer tones of garden roses, ranunculus and sweet peas without competing with them, and they photograph gently in both daylight and candlelight. A pastel cake reads as romantic and fresh at once, which is why it suits spring and early summer so well, though it carries through any season.

The key is restraint in the number of colors. Two pastels and white, or one pastel in several shades, look considered; five pastels at once start to look like a party cake. I usually build the palette from your florist’s recipe so the cake and the flowers belong together. If one soft color is all you want, my guide to blush wedding cakes shows how far a single pink can carry a design.

Four Ways to Bring In Soft Color

Approach What It Looks Like Reads As
Tinted tiers Whole tiers in blush, sage or peach, or an ombre Soft
Sugar flowers Pastel blooms shaped by hand on white tiers Romantic
Painting Watercolor florals or vines brushed onto white Artistic
Pressed petals Real pressed flowers set into smooth buttercream Garden

Real Pastel Cakes from My Studio

A sage ombre cake deepens from pale to rich green with scalloped petals and blush blooms. A blush ruffle cake carries sugar flowers and butterflies up the tiers, and three tall tiers painted with lilac lupines show how a single soft color can carry a whole design. At the smallest scale, a blush single tier with one dried rose sat on a styled place setting, proof that pastel works at any size.

Painting and sugar work are where pastels shine most. My guide to painted wedding cakes shows the watercolor side, and my comparison of sugar flowers and fresh flowers covers the floral side. Piped blooms in soft colors appear throughout my buttercream flower cakes, and the season pastels love most is in my spring wedding cakes guide.

What Pastel Detail Adds to the Investment

Tier count and servings set the base. Tinting a tier adds little; sugar flowers, painting and pressed petals each add studio time, so most detailed pastel designs land above the starting price for their size. Delivery location and Utah’s 3% sales tax set the final number, and I quote your design in full, itemized, after we sketch it together. Buttercream and white chocolate vary slightly in tone, so I match your swatch as closely as the ingredients allow. Flavor is chosen at your wedding cake tasting. Dairy-free and gluten-friendly options are available, contact me for flavor details. My cakes contain wheat, dairy and eggs and are made in a kitchen where nuts and soy are present.

Pastel Wedding Cake Questions, Answered

What colors count as pastel for a wedding cake?

The soft, light tones: blush, peach, sage, lilac, powder blue and butter yellow. On a wedding cake they usually appear as a tinted tier or ombre, or as sugar flowers, painting or pressed petals on white.

Can you match our cake to our flowers?

Yes. I build the palette from your florist’s colors and match a swatch as closely as the ingredients allow, since buttercream and white chocolate vary slightly in tone.

Are pastel wedding cakes only for spring?

No. Pastels suit spring and early summer especially well, but blush, sage and peach carry into any season, particularly paired with candlelight and garden roses.

How much is a pastel wedding cake?

Most couples invest $650 to $1,200. Two tiers start from $450 for 20 to 60 servings and three tiers from $650 for 48 to 115. Sugar flowers, painting and pressed petals usually land above the starting price for their size.

Do you deliver pastel wedding cakes across Utah?

Yes. I deliver and style every cake on site anywhere in Utah, priced by location, and I travel for destination weddings.
